The most important thing you can do as a DJ TODAY!

The most valuable thing you own as a DJ isn’t your controller or your laptop. It’s your music collection! The longer you DJ and the more your collection grows, the more valuable it becomes. It’s not just the music itself (which hopefully you have paid for) but it’s the time invested into building that collection.

With such value from a financial and time perspective all DJ’s should be backing up their music in a regular basis- at LEAST once every 2 weeks.

Want to know how? Please read on!

  1. The physical backup

As described the physical backup is where you use a device such as a USB stick or external SSD to backup your collection. This is pretty simple and can be fairly cost effective however the larger your collection the more expensive the storage devices become. It’s easy to do however you have to remember to backup and be disciplined with this method. It is also recommended to store your backup away from your main DJ laptop/ computer!

2. The Cloud

If you want something that is automatic and doesn’t involve having to plug in a device then a cloud based backup might be right for you. Services like dropbox can facilitate automatic backups and typically charge based on how much you are backing up. This can become fairly costly for larger libraries and you will have to buy into a subscription based plan however in return you can feel confident in that your music will be kept safe in the event of theft or hard-drive failures.

Which ever method you decide to go with, don’t risk your music collection and potentially your livelihood and backup your music collection regularly!
